In 1999, People First Liverpool were asked to run a meeting skills training course for people with learning disabilities in sefton.

People First Liverpool found accessible venues for the training in the North and South of Sefton and met with people from Sefton to find out what they wanted, this included people with learning disabilities, family carers and anyone who works with people with learning disabilities. On the training course we asked the people taking part what they wanted in their lives.
People voted that they would like to have their own Self Advocacy group in Sefton. We agreed to hold regular Self Advocacy meetings. We asked the Health Authority and Social services for money to open offices for the group.
We are still working hard to support people with learning disabilities to speak up in Sefton.
